Job Description

The Bankruptcy Specialist II is responsible for monitoring bankruptcy loans within the portfolio. They will submit referrals to qualified firms and communicate with attorneys, investors and internal business units within Colonial.

Responsibilities Include:

• Research inquiries from attorneys and internal business units within Colonial
• Minimize losses through management of attorneys and third party vendors to ensure bankruptcy processes are consistently progressing
• Review, comprehend, and document bankruptcy court documents including bankruptcy schedules, bankruptcy plans, and proofs of claim
• Ensure accounts are properly documented with actions taken, correspondence, and explanation of delays if any occurred
• Coordinate and expedite the handling of the bankruptcy in accordance with investor, state, and federal bankruptcy code
• Process cash
• Train new hires and seasoned employees
• Ensure proof of claim is filed correctly and an acceptable plan is entered and approved within guidelines
• Process the file when the bankruptcy has been dismissed, stay lifted or the loan has reinstated
• Ensure policies and procedures are updated and maintained
• Create and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly reports and distribute to management
• Communicate with Attorneys, court appointed trustees and borrowers
• Recognize loan documents and order missing documents as appropriate
• Obtain pertinent filing information from court website
• Properly identify different bankruptcy chapters
• Electronically file proof of claim with courts
• Transfer payoff and delinquency information to proof of claim form
• Escalate to management any deficiencies, problems, or concerns that might be a potential risk
• Various duties as assigned


Job Requirements

• 1+ years experience in bankruptcy
• Mortgage Servicing experience
• Familiar with different bankruptcy chapters
• Maintain high performance and accuracy in a fast paced stressful environment
• Works well without direct supervision
• Prioritize work and effectively manage time
• Must be a team player with strong attention to detail
• Proficiency with alphanumeric data entry
• Prior experience with high volume data entry required
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Computer Skills, Word and Excel
• Ability to Multitask
• Excellent organizational skills
• Attention to detail
• Must be able to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
