Job Description

CU Members Mortgage, a division of Colonial Savings, F.A., provides turn-key mortgage origination services for credit unions and their members nationwide.  The Loan Officer is responsible for originating residential mortgage loans for the members of one or more credit unions.  Eligible loan products include FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA, Jumbo, and credit union portfolio products.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Promote the credit union mortgage loan offering during contact with credit union members and credit union employees
  • Counsel members on their needs in order to identify the right mortgage product
  • Counsel and negotiate with members on rate/price options, fees, terms, required documentation, and disclosure agreements
  • Encourage applications for pre-qualification and pre-approval
  • Ensure a complete 1003 loan application, whether taken directly by the employee, credit union employee, or via an on-line portal
  • Ensure rate locks are complete and accurate using all applicant and loan parameters
  • Comply with federal regulation and disclosure requirements in producing mortgage loan applications
  • Follow documented workflow procedures for Loan Officers
  • Communicate as needed with the member, credit union employees, other parties to the transaction, and CU Members employees (Operations, Processing, Underwriting, and Closing)
  • Develop relationships with credit union employees around the mortgage loan offering based on the selected level of service by the credit union
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements

  • 2+ years of direct residential mortgage origination experience under TRID
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Strong math and analytical skills required
  • Proficient computer skills; Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, and Loan Origination Systems (LOS) required
  • Ability to use standard office equipment as provided by CU Members or the credit union
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to demonstrate a professional, unbiased outlook, regardless of the conversation, communication, interaction, or scenario
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize many responsibilities in dealing with member applicants, credit union employees, and CU Members employees
  • Ability to work alone in credit union office space without direct onsite daily supervision
  • Successful NMLS registration is required
